Retreat Farm weddings: three North Barn layouts
Town BrattleboroType Barn & farm
Retreat Farm in Brattleboro distinguishes a 200-guest wedding from a 250-seat North Barn dinner layout. When ceremony, cocktails and reception are all set up in the barn at once, its standard capacity is 136. The standard rental lasts 14 hours, from 8 am to 10 pm.
| Detail | Event requirement |

| Alcohol rule | Full-service venue bar, six taps; outdoor bar available ↗ |

One barn, three different layouts
For a 150-person all-indoor event, the list exceeds the stated simultaneous-setup figure by 14 even though it falls below the 200-person wedding figure. Discuss a different arrangement with the venue manager before choosing that format. The patio’s 90 seats and the full-service bar’s six taps are separate features, not extra indoor dinner capacity.
References
Retreat Farm's wedding page says its historic farm has water views and a seating capacity of 200, and calls it the region's largest indoor wedding venue, minutes from downtown Brattleboro. It also states the working number for a single-room plan: with the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all set in the North Barn at one time, the standard capacity is 136 guests.
Retreat Farm: the setting, and what couples plan around
The gap between 136 and 200 is the planning fact. A wedding above 136 needs a flip between ceremony and reception spaces or a second room for cocktails, which changes staffing and timing. Ask which layout the 200-seat figure assumes.
What Retreat Farm states
Retreat Farm: the individual spaces, as the venue lists them

- North Barn (indoor ceremony, cocktails and reception)
- 250 seated for dinner; 136 standard if all three share the room.
Separate a farm visit from the reserved event space
For a wedding at Retreat Farm, put the actual ceremony and reception locations on the guest instructions. A working farm can have visitors arriving for other reasons, so the event entrance and unloading arrangement should be clear before shuttles or delivery vehicles arrive. Ask the event team which approach vendors use and where guests wait before the ceremony.
Compare a dinner seating plan with the complete event layout, including the bar, service aisle and dancing. If the outdoor ceremony moves into the reception space, identify when the chairs move and where guests spend that changeover. Agree who makes the weather decision and the time by which the caterer and rental company need it. These are booking questions for the specific spaces, not additional farm policies.
Create separate arrival times for the people setting up the ceremony and the people attending it. For example, a delivery at noon, musicians at 1 pm and guests at 3 pm require access throughout that period, not just a 3 pm event start. Ask which of those periods the venue reservation covers.
Keep a named contact for the rental delivery and another person responsible for receiving flowers or personal decorations; those jobs can otherwise fall to the couple while they are getting ready.
