Vermont wedding regions: where in Vermont to get married
Regions with listed venues 8
Compare Vermont wedding regions using the actual ceremony and reception towns, lodging allocation and guest route. The eight regional shortlists below group the listed venues geographically. A town’s tax category, a resort’s room block and the route between event buildings need individual confirmation; a regional description does not establish a price, drive time or available room.

Where the listed venues publish cost figures
In these 45 venue records, Burlington and the Champlain Valley and Southern Vermont each have four venues with a primary-source cost figure. The Lamoille shortlist has two of three, the largest share.
The count includes a site fee, package, per-person price, spending minimum or stated total; a deposit figure can qualify without supplying the whole fee. It is a description of this shortlist’s published information, not a business rating or a count of every Vermont venue.
| Region | Listed venues | With a cost figure |
|---|---|---|
| Champlain Valley | 11 | 4 |
| Southern Vermont | 10 | 4 |
| Lamoille Valley | 3 | 2 |
| Central Vermont | 6 | 1 |
| Mad River Valley | 3 | 1 |
| Northeast Kingdom | 3 | 1 |
| Stowe and Waterbury | 5 | 1 |
| Woodstock and Upper Valley | 4 | 0 |
The regional pages link each venue and its attributed figures. A zero in this primary-source comparison does not erase separately attributed listing prices or establish that an event is expensive. Compare the actual quote using fee and minimum definitions.
- Finding · prices
- Which Vermont regions have wedding venues that publish a price.
Which Vermont region's wedding venues publish the most is a count of nine facts. Most Vermont wedding venues do not print a price on their own website. 14 of 45 state a fee, a per-person rate, a food and beverage minimum or a full package price, and the rest quote privately after an inquiry.
By region, Burlington & the Champlain Valley has the most, with 4 of its 11 venues, and Woodstock & the Upper Valley has none. A published price is a starting point for a budget, not a quote, because the figures cover different things: a venue fee, a per-person package, a minimum spend.
If your shortlist sits in a region with few printed prices, plan to send the pricing questions in your first email and ask what each figure includes.

Why a printed price is not the same as a quote
A venue that prints a number is telling you how it prices, not what your wedding will cost. One venue prints a fee for each space, another a per-person package, another a food and beverage minimum you must reach whatever your guest count. The venue fees and minimums page lays the billing models side by side.
The practical use of the table is the shortlist. Venues that print a price can be costed before you contact them, and the ones that do not need the pricing questions in your first email.
What to ask a venue that publishes no price
Ask what the venue fee covers, whether there is a food and beverage minimum and for which days, whether a service charge and gratuity are on top, and what changes for a weekday or off-season date. Ask for it in writing, and ask whether Vermont's 9% meals tax and 10% alcohol tax, plus the 1% local option tax in some towns, are in the number.
The tax and minimum calculator does that sum once you have the figures.
Does a published price include tax and gratuity?
Only where the venue says so. The Grafton Inn states that taxes and gratuities are already in its figures. Ask every other venue.
Is a published price a quote?
No. It shows how the venue prices, and the inclusions differ, so compare them line by line.
What should I do if my venue leaves its price off the website?
Send the pricing questions in your first email and ask for the answers in writing.
Where can I see all the printed prices side by side?
See venue fees and minimums for every figure a venue publishes, with what it covers.
Do inquiry-only venues publish prices?
Usually not. They quote each wedding individually, so the price arrives after the first conversation.

Vermont is small enough that couples treat it as one place and large enough that it is not.
What changes between regions is not scenery, it is all good, but three things that cost money: how far your guests drive from the airport or the interstate, how many hotel rooms exist within a sensible radius of the venue, and whether the town has adopted the applicable local tax for the event address, purchase category and date; a town name alone is not a ruling for every meal or lodging purchase.
This page sets those side by side for the 8 regions where we have verified at least one venue, so you can choose the region on logistics first and fall in love with the individual venue second. That order leaves fewer regrets. Pick the region first.
Distances matter. Check the drive before you fall for a view.

Confirm the local meals, alcoholic-beverage and rooms tax for the venue’s actual address and the event date using the Department of Taxes’ current finder. These tax categories can differ within a municipality. Burlington and Rutland City administer their own local taxes, so absence from a state-administered list is not proof that no local tax applies.
Keep the invoice’s tax lines separate from the venue’s service charge and ask the venue to identify the basis for each.
Burlington & the Champlain Valley
The Champlain Valley is the one part of Vermont where a guest can fly in, stay in a walkable downtown and reach the venue without a car for at least part of the weekend. The area also holds the largest share of the state's hotel rooms, which matters more than venue capacity once your guest list passes about 120.
11 verified venues: Basin Harbor , The Essex Resort & Spa , Shelburne Farms , Shelburne Vineyard , Old Round Church , Sleepy Hollow , Hotel Champlain , Community Sailing Center , The Mansfield Barn , Spirit of Ethan Allen , Bolton Valley Resort.
- Mad River Valley
- The valley's venues sit close to residential neighbors, so the clearest published music cut-off of any venue covered here comes from here. Treat an end-time as a planning input, not a detail. 3 verified venues: The Inn at the Round Barn Farm , Sugarbush Resort , Lareau Farm.
- Central Vermont
- The trade here is space for travel time. Properties are larger and quieter than in the Champlain Valley, and more of your guests will drive more than an hour to reach them. 6 verified venues: Mountain Top Resort , Killington Resort , Riverside Farm , The Lilac Inn , The Middlebury Inn , Mountain Meadows Lodge.
Southern Vermont
Southern Vermont has the highest concentration of towns carrying the extra 1% local option tax of any region, which is a small but real line on a large catering bill. 10 verified venues: Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home , The Equinox Resort , The Wilburton Inn , Stratton Mountain Resort , Mount Snow , Okemo Mountain Resort , Retreat Farm , The Old Gray Barn , The Grafton Inn , Farm Road Estate.
- Northeast Kingdom
- The Kingdom is where a published price list exists, because these venues compete on being worth the drive. Budget for the drive: this is the one region where guest travel, not venue cost, is the binding requirement. 3 verified venues: Jay Peak Resort , The Wildflower Inn , The Barn at Top of The World.
Lamoille Valley & Smugglers Notch
Neither Cambridge nor Jeffersonville has adopted the state's local option tax, unlike Stowe just south of them: a genuine, checkable price difference on the same catering bill for a venue twenty minutes away. The trade is a shorter list of full-service resorts and a longer drive from the nearest airport. 3 verified venues: The Barn at Boyden Farm , The Barn at Smugglers' Notch , Sterling Ridge Resort.
Should I choose region or venue type first?
Type first for requirements you cannot negotiate, then region for guest travel and lodging. See venue types.
Does the local option tax apply to the venue fee too?
It applies to taxable meals, rooms and alcoholic beverage sales. How a specific site fee is treated is a question for the venue's own invoice: ask for a quote showing tax as its own line.
