Venue intelligence

Vermont wedding venues

Compare Vermont wedding venues by their named ceremony and dinner spaces, season, food-service agreement and complete price. The table links each venue to its room-specific facts and sources. Standing occupancy, ceremony seats, dinner seats and guest bedrooms are different counts; use the arrangement needed for the event rather than a property-wide maximum.

Choose the capacity for the actual event format

Harpoon Windsor distinguishes 100 seated indoors from 125 total and 200 on its seasonal lawn. Hotel Champlain distinguishes 350 seated from 600 standing.

A hypothetical 150-person Harpoon indoor dinner needs 50 more seats than the published layout, even though its lawn maximum is higher. A capacity band should therefore identify the room and meal format rather than label the whole venue small or large.

The journal is where the numbers behind the venue pages get read out loud. Every post starts from the same records the venue and planning pages use, the venues' own published statements, the state's own pages and the official solar equations, and asks one question of them. When does the light go on a Saturday in October?

Which event addresses require a local meals or alcohol tax for the actual transaction? What does one venue's price schedule say about foliage weekends? Each post is dated the day it was written, none is back-dated, and none names an author.

A figure that appears in a post is computed from the records, so it cannot drift from the page it summarizes. New findings are added as the records change.

Listings vs websites

Saturday light

Sunset, golden hour and twilight on six 2027 Saturdays in three Vermont towns, and what the shift from June to October does to a 4 pm ceremony.

Local option towns

An earlier 45-venue worksheet grouped 25 as local-option locations and 20 separately. Those counts describe that worksheet, not a current tax determination. Check the state’s address finder, purchase category and effective date before adding local tax to a bill.

Boyden Farm prices

The Barn at Boyden Farm publishes 2027 weekend prices by date window. The arithmetic: foliage weeks cost 37% more than late spring and 17% more than midsummer.

When the music stops

Only four of 45 verified Vermont venues publish an amplified-music end time. The arithmetic of a 5:30 pm start against 9:30, 10:00, 10:30 and 11:00 pm.

Lodging against capacity

26 of 45 verified Vermont venues state lodging. Set against capacity: Mountain Top Resort houses 290, the Round Barn's 12 rooms sit beside a room for 200.

Prices by region

Burlington & the Champlain Valley has the most Vermont wedding venues that publish a price, 4 of 11. Which venues, and what to ask the rest.

Numbers Vermont sets

Every figure Vermont's pages set for a wedding: the $80 license, 60 days, the 10-day return, $100 officiant fee, 30 days at the DMV, $10 copies and the taxes.

Capacity bands

37 of 45 verified Vermont venues state a capacity of 50 or more, 26 of 200 or more and 9 of 300 or more. The drop-off, and who states none.

Who may cook

20 of 45 verified Vermont venues state a catering arrangement. Fourteen restrict the caterer, and none says outright to bring anyone you like.

Winter weddings

Eleven of 45 verified Vermont venues state a winter or year-round option. What each says, the price drop, and how early the light goes.

Foliage prices

Four Vermont venues print a higher price for fall foliage or peak dates: 14% to 70% more. What each states, and the sunset on a mid-October Saturday.

Small wedding cost

Three Vermont venues print prices for weddings of 2 to 75 guests. Worked out per guest, from $69 to $1,750, and why the figures are not directly comparable.

High-end prices

The largest wedding figures Vermont venues print, from $9,300 to $110,000, and which well-known venues quote privately. Arithmetic on the venues' own numbers.

Listings vs websites

Seven of 15 Vermont venues agree with every directory on capacity, eight do not. The same comparison for prices, side by side.

Is there an RSS feed?

Yes, at /journal/feed.xml. It lists every post with its title, its link and the date it was published, and it updates when a post is added.

Do the posts recommend venues?

No. They report what venues state about themselves and do not rank or recommend any of them.

Why does the first post concern light?

Because the time the sun sets decides more of a wedding day than most couples expect, and it is computable exactly.

Do the posts include prices?

Mostly prices a venue publishes about itself. One post sets those beside the figures wedding directories list, and labels which is which.

Where do I find the underlying pages?

Each post's related links point to the venue, cost and planning pages behind it. See venues and costs.

Can I suggest a finding?

Yes, through the contact form; A useful one is a question the records can answer exactly.

Finding · capacity
Capacity bands: how many verified venues hold each guest count.

37 of the 45 Vermont venues state a capacity, and the count falls as the guest list grows. 37 state room for 50 or more, and the same 35 state 150 or more. 26 state 200 or more, sixteen state 250 or more and only nine state 300 or more.

The steep step is between 200 and 250, where ten venues drop out. The other eight state no capacity at all. They are not ruled out, only unmeasurable from their own sites, so a guest list near a band's edge is a reason to ask.

Every figure is the largest capacity a venue states for any one space.

Verified Vermont venues by the capacity they state

How many verified venues state a largest capacity at or above each guest count.; a venue is counted by the largest figure it states for any space.

The 8 venues that state no capacity.

Shelburne Farms, Hildene, Edson Hill, The Barn at Smugglers' Notch, Old Round Church, Spirit of Ethan Allen, Bolton Valley Resort, Mountain Meadows Lodge state no capacity. Three are inquiry-only, one is not booking, and one is booking but states no figure.

What the largest figure hides at multi-space venues

A venue's largest capacity belongs to its largest room, not necessarily the room you want. Jay Peak's 250 is its ballroom, and its Clubhouse Barn states 180 seated.

Seated, standing and with a dance floor are three different figures. See guest list and capacity for how to read them.

Which venue states the smallest space?

The Essex Resort's Chef's Kitchen for up to six, and Trapp Family Lodge's Alcove for up to 20.

What the capacity bands can and cannot decide

A band's total counts venues whose largest stated space reaches a guest threshold. It does not say that each ceremony location or every room at those venues reaches that threshold. For example, Harpoon's 200-person lawn and 100 seated indoor places describe two different arrangements. A 150-person outdoor dinner needs a particular wet-weather plan even though the lawn clears the 150 band.

Use a band as a starting selection, then open the room record. Check seated dinner capacity, whether dancing is included, the available season and the actual ceremony location. A resort maximum can belong to a ballroom while the desired summit room is smaller.

The count is also sensitive to the threshold. Moving a guest list from 200 to 201 can remove a venue capped at exactly 200 without meaningfully changing catering effort. Confirm the highest possible attendance before using a band to exclude a property. The date and named room still need the venue's confirmation.

A Vermont wedding venue is chosen on about nine facts, and the state's venues publish very few of them. Across the 45 Vermont venues, the median number published on the venue's own website is 3 of nine.

Capacity is the one nearly everybody states
The alcohol rule, the end time and the minimum spend are the ones almost nobody does, and those three are the requirements most likely to end a booking late, after a deposit.

So this hub is organized the way the decision runs: pick the venue type whose requirements you can live with, read what each venue in it has committed to in writing, and go into your first conversation already knowing which of the nine you are there to ask about.

Maximum guest counts stated for the listed venues. Room and seating arrangements are detailed in each venue record.

Venue capacity limits
Room and seating arrangements are detailed in each venue record.

Every verified venue, side by side

One table, every venue, the four facts that most often decide a shortlist. Follow a venue's name for its full record and the venue's own wording.

Twin Farms
Barnard; Capacity: Receptions of up to 50 in the Lodge or the Pub, 40 at the Lakeside Cabana, 40 in the Main House dining room (60 maximum); Catering: Breakfast, lunch (including picnics) and farm-to-table dinner are part of the rate, with cocktails and canapés each evening.
Riverside Farm

The Mansfield Barn

The nine questions, worded to get a real answer
These are the questions to send any venue whose record leaves a fact open.

What is the maximum seated capacity of the specific room you would put us in, with a dance floor in it?

Settles guest capacity.

What is the last date in the year you will run a wedding in that space, not the last date on the calendar?

Settles season or dates.

How many bedrooms are on site, and how many are we contractually committed to?

Settles on-site lodging.

Is outside catering permitted at all, from an open list or an approved list?

Settles catering rule.

Who holds the license for the bar, and may we supply any of the alcohol ourselves?

Settles alcohol rule.

What is the site fee for our date, and exactly what does it include?

Settles site or venue fee.

Is there a minimum spend or a minimum guest count for our date and day of the week?

Settles minimum spend or guest count.

If it rains, which space do we move to, does it hold the same number of people, and how many hours beforehand is the call made?

Settles rain plan.

What time must amplified music stop, and is there any condition that moves it later?

Settles music or end-time limit.

Choose the venue type first

Type is the more useful first cut than region, because the requirements that come with a type, who cooks, what the rain plan can be, how late the music runs, are the ones you cannot negotiate away.

How do I compare venues that publish nothing?

You cannot from their websites. That is the finding. Use which venues publish their prices to see who they are, and budget inquiry time for them.

Is capacity seated or standing?

Whatever the venue said. Where a venue distinguishes, the venue page quotes both; most do not distinguish, and that is itself worth asking about.

What does a venue's date mean?; The day that venue's website was read. Anything published after that date is not reflected yet. Tell us and we will re-read it.

Can a venue pay to rank higher here?

No. There is no ranking and nothing is for sale.

Why is there no venue photography?

We have no license to any of it. Every figure on this site is an original diagram drawn from our own data.
