Vermont historic and estate wedding venues

Compare Vermont estate weddings by current booking status and the actual ceremony, reception and lodging arrangements. Shelburne Farms is not booking weddings at the Inn or Coach Barn. Old Round Church is a ceremony setting; Hildene’s garden estate, Wilburton’s tent and Twin Farms’ dining rooms support different event sequences.

Shelburne FarmsShelburneThe Inn and Coach Barn at Shelburne Farms are not accepting wedding bookings for the foreseeable future. Read the farm’s current gathering notice before treating photographs of past celebrations as an available event offer.
Hildene, The Lincoln Family HomeManchesterHildene’s listing quotes $8,000–$18,000 for ceremony and reception, with six event hours and a tent. It lists 220 guests and an exclusive caterer. A licensed bartender or caterer serves alcohol; the listed music finish is 11:30 pm.
The Wilburton InnManchesterWilburton lists a 200-plus reception, alongside a $8,000–$16,000 facility fee described for 200 guests and $500 ceremony setup. Its venue arrangement supplies food and drink. The $8,000 food-and-beverage minimum is a spending threshold, rather than automatically another entire charge.
Twin FarmsBarnardTwin Farms gives the Lodge 30 dining places and 50 reception places. The Pub instead seats 40 for dinner within the same 50-person reception limit. Cabana reception space holds 40; Ski Hill celebrations describe 40–60. The rate covers meals, evening cocktails and canapés.
Old Round ChurchRichmondOld Round Church’s listing advertises up to 200, while its description calls 150 comfortable. A $500 ceremony booking covers three hours. Neither food service nor alcohol is allowed, and the listed music cutoff is 10 pm.
Farm Road EstateDoverFarm Road’s outdoor tent is described for 300. Its listing quotes $1,250 for a four-hour ceremony and reception. Food is supplied by its own farm-to-table operation, and alcohol must come through the venue.

A ceremony-only booking does not reserve dinner

Old Round Church’s attributed listing prohibits catering and alcohol, so a reception requires another location. Twin Farms’ Lodge lists 30 dining versus 50 reception.

A hypothetical 40-person dinner exceeds that Lodge dining figure by ten but reaches the Pub’s 40 dining places. Confirm the named room and approved layout rather than judging an estate from its acreage.

What to ask any historic and estate venue in Vermont

These are the requirements that come with the building instead of with the business, so they apply even where the venue's own website is silent. Ask before you visit. Then ask again in writing.

What is restricted indoors: flame, food, drink, heels?

Preservation rules routinely limit candles, confetti, food in certain rooms and sometimes stiletto heels on historic floors. All reasonable; all worth knowing before you plan.

Is the site open to the public during your event?

Many historic properties run public hours and private events on the same day, with a stated changeover time.

Which building is the rain plan, and does it fit everyone?

Historic interiors are frequently smaller than the lawn. The rain plan may be a real reduction in capacity instead of a like-for-like move.

Is the venue booking weddings at all this season?

Not a rhetorical question. One of the best-known estates in Vermont is not, and still appears on directory listings.

Is there a real Vermont wedding chapel, not just a resort function room?

One verified: the Old Round Church in Richmond, an 1813 National Historic Landmark run by a nonprofit historical society instead of a wedding business: no published capacity, fee or season, unlike the commercial venues here.

Compare access and event space before the view

For an estate wedding, map the guest route from unloading through the ceremony and into dinner. A garden ceremony and a tent reception are separate spaces even when both appear in the same photograph. Confirm where guests gather during rain, who moves furniture and which paths remain available to museum or overnight visitors.

The event proposal should also distinguish the reserved grounds from any bedrooms or public rooms. A ceremony rental does not establish a reception booking, and a house on the property does not establish lodging for the whole guest list. Use the named rooms and their seated plans to make those decisions.
