Southern Vermont's hotel lodging is spread across Brattleboro, Bennington, Arlington and Manchester, with inns and B&Bs across the ski mountains, farming valleys and historic towns. Lodging is spread over several towns. The choice is between a resort wedding and a village wedding.

Stratton and Mount Snow are the resort options. Manchester or Grafton are the village options, where guests can walk between the inn, the ceremony and dinner.

Verified venues in southern Vermont

A regional shortlist does not establish the tax on a particular wedding invoice. Confirm the venue address, taxable meal and alcohol charges, lodging charges and applicable municipal rates for the event date. A town’s absence from a historic list is not a current exemption. Ask for service charges and tax to be itemised separately.

Southern Vermont's densest cluster of verified venues, and its most historic: a 250-year-old resort, a 1902 family mansion, and the Lincoln family's own summer estate, all within a few miles of the Route 7A village green.

All three verified Manchester venues are historic-character properties instead of working farms or purpose-built barns: the trade you are making by choosing this town over, say, the Mad River Valley is polish and pedigree for a shorter list of rustic options.

Manchester is also on the state's local option list, so catering here runs 10% and the bar 11%, for the relevant meal and served-alcohol purchases; confirm the actual address and date before comparing with a proposal from another municipality.

Hildene is a 412-acre Lincoln family estate in historic Manchester Village, a short drive from three of the region's best-known ski resorts and within an hour of the Berkshires and the Hudson Valley. The Old Gray Barn sits about 3 miles from the Dorset village green and 9 miles from the center of Manchester. The town is a base for several venues rather than one. A Manchester wedding usually means choosing a village hotel or an estate. Guests then make short drives between them. Plan the shuttle early.

Manchester's estates are built for different headcounts. The Wilburton can host 200 or more guests for a reception and up to 150 overnight guests on its hilltop, The Equinox's front lawn tent seats up to 300. Hildene offers a lawn and formal garden at a Lincoln family estate. A smaller wedding with a heritage setting points to Hildene. A large one with lodging points to The Wilburton or The Equinox.

What Manchester costs on top of the venue
